I pray this message blesses you and bring you closer to the Father.
On Monday March 18, I was driving in my car and listening to William McDowell’s song, “Don’t Mind Waiting” and the Lord dropped these words into me and told me to share this Word with the World. If you have been waiting for the Lord to fulfill a promise he gave to you then this word is for you!
Man oh Man, I can't wait to finish this particular blog because I hope that it sets you on FIRE or reignite your FIRE for the Lord. If you deal with anxiety you most likely have looked into ways you can help calm your emotional rollercoaster. Perhaps you’ve even tried some self-help techniques in the past. While these methods can provide some relief, it’s often temporary.
A few weeks ago I watched a full interview that Oprah facilitated with our former First Lady, Michele Obama on her newest book "Becoming Michele Obama". I have not read her book yet but it's on my bucket list of books I want to read for sure. This interview truly captured my attention because she was very authentic and transparent as she shared snippets of her book to a very broad audience.
Last year, the sitcom, “Blackish” had a very heartfelt and the most realistic episode I have seen on T.V. in a while about Post-Partum Depression. I watched the episode twice, once alone and once with my husband, and I cried both times. Even my husband got emotional because it bought back the feeling of helplessness as he watched me suffer as I gave birth to our first child. It brought back so many memories for us.
Back in April 2018, I got the opportunity to be interviewed by Mrs. Dylesia Barner, Doctoral Student, LCSW, Business Owner, International Speaker and so many other things 🙂 She is truly making an impact on so many lives and I am so glad that we crossed paths. Check out my interview below.
In this video I really wanted to share some marriage nuggets. I wanted to share how my husband and I met and how Marriage can be everything that God created it to be right now today in your life. I pray that it blesses you and empowers you to revisit the way you function in your marriage. Below are some references and suggestions of materials and scriptures that I referenced to in this video. Have a blessed weekend.
Pregnancy can be an emotionally overwhelming experience for just about anybody. But for women with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), it can be downright scary. Sadly, there doesn’t seem to be a lot of information to be found about how PTSD can impact a pregnancy, leaving many moms-to-be with even more questions and concerns.
According to the American Pregnancy Association, 70-80% of all new mothers experience what’s called the “baby blues”, while only 10% – 20% suffer from postpartum depression. With so many women experiencing some form of emotional upheaval after giving birth, why is there still so much confusion about the two?
Fatherhood is more than providing food, shelter and enforcing discipline. Fatherhood is the consistent presence of strength, wisdom and love in your child’s life. Many dads struggle to be more involved in their child’s life, confused by old ideas of gender roles that conflict with their desire to connect and bond with their children. And let's face it, being a father or a mother does not come with a manual after the child is born.
It’s natural to feel down or anxious from time to time. What’s not natural, however, is prolonged feelings of hopelessness and despair. When these emotions grab hold, and won’t let go, it is likely you may have depression. Depression makes every day a constant challenge. You no longer enjoy life as you once did. Just getting out of bed can feel overwhelming.
As a therapist I know firsthand how working in this profession can be taxing to our mental health and self-care. Taking care of yourself is extremely important in order to provide the best care for our clients’ and rejuvenate ourselves. Therapists seek therapy for a number of reasons and I truly believe it is very necessary at some point in our lives to seek professional help.
A faith based counselor is a counselor who provides psychological support and counseling services to their clients, combining theology and spirituality with therapeutic modalities. Clients who seek faith-based counseling are looking for a counselor who understands the importance of their spiritual beliefs. This style of counseling incorporates biblical scripture and teachings to guide you through challenging life issues. When facing turbulent life events, integrating and strengthening your faith may be the missing piece in finding proper treatment. A Christian counselor can help you to navigate life’s challenges in ways that respect your faith. Christian counseling prioritizes your faith as an important part of the healing process.
